Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel, where you can relax and prepare for the journey ahead.

Set off to explore Tamanrasset itself, discovering traditional red mud-brick houses, bustling souks, and notable landmarks such as the Hermitage of de Foucault. The city’s vibrant spirit and deep-rooted history set the perfect tone for your desert expedition. Venture north along rugged, rocky tracks to the awe-inspiring heights of Atakor—a massive volcanic field where the interplay of light and shadow creates dramatic vistas. Travel through the mountains of Iharen and Akar-Akar and be enchanted by the gueltas of Afilal, where pink lauriers add unexpected color to the arid landscape. Continue to Assekrem, and ascend to the summit to witness one of the Sahara’s most breathtaking sunsets.

Your journey deepens as you explore the rocky massifs of Atakor and visit remote Tuareg villages like Hirafok. Spend a night camping under a canopy of stars, where the vast silence of the desert leaves you in awe. Next, cross the ancient Plain of Amadror—once the center of a thriving salt trade—before venturing to the golden dunes of Tihodaine. Head further north into the mountains of Adrar to witness prehistoric rock paintings at Tassili, then traverse the col of Tiradjeli and descend toward Fort Gardel. Journey on to the oasis of Oued Essendilene, and finally, trek on foot across ochre dunes to Tikoubaouine. Here, marvel at natural rock formations like the Balanced Rock and the Tikoubaouine Arch before hiking through Timeras and Oued Assasou to the enchanting oasis of Djanet.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1: Tamanrasset, Algeria

Arrive at Tamanrasset: meet assist and transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Tamanrasset

After breakfast go on a tour of Tamanrasset, an oasis city and chief city of the Algerian Tuareg. Highlights include the Hermitage of de Foucault, traditional red mud-brick houses, and the souk (commercial quarter). Afterward, drive north along rocky tracks towards the heights of Atakor (massive volcanic field) and across mountains of Iharen and Akar‐Akar to the gueltas of Afilal (pink lauriers) - and past the jagged peaks of Taguerguiste and Tizouyag. Continue to Assekrem, and climb to the mountain’s summit to witness one of Sahara’s most beautiful sunsets. Overnight at Assekrem. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 3

After breakfast, climb to the top of the plateau and admire the rising sun. Afterward, delve into the rocky massif of Atakor and on to Tehe‐n’Taretime and gueltas of Issakarassene and Eguef‐Melene. Continue to the remote Tuareg village of Hirafok then further into the desert to camp in a remote spot between Hirafok and Ideles. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 4: Ideles - Amadror - Tihodaine

After breakfast, walk to the farming village of Ideles and visit the village blacksmith. Ideles is located at the foot of Taderaz. Pass Oued Telouhet- full of verdant vegetation including acacia trees and others. Afterward, cross the Plain of Amadror which at one time was the center of the ancient salt trade with Niger, and through to the dunes of Tihodaine. Camp overnight amidst sand dunes. Day 5: Tassili - Adrar

After breakfast depart to Tassili or “Plateau of the Rivers” and head north into the mountains of Adrar and across the plateau of Fadnoun to visit the world-famous rock paintings. Over 15,000 prehistoric and first-century carvings and engravings have been discovered here including the famous gazelle engraving. Continue to the gueltas of Dider. Camp overnight in the desert. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 6: Col of Tiradjeli - Fort Gardel

After breakfast, head towards the col of Tiradjeli and descend towards the plane of erg Admer, through the village, and to Oued of Zaouatalaz (Fort Gardel). Afterward, continue towards the dunes of erg Adme for overnight in the desert oasis Oued Essendilene. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 7: Essendilene - Tikoubaouine

After breakfast, cross the ochre dunes by foot to Essendilene a lush rainwater delta where you can explore the towering cliffs and enjoy lunch beside crystal waters. Afterward, drive to Tikoubaouine and see the Balanced Rock of Tikoubaouine and the Tikoubaouine Arch. Camp overnight in the desert. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 8: Tikoubaouine - Timeras - Oued Assasou - Djanet - Tararart

After breakfast, hike towards Tikoubaouine along the huge dunes of Admer and past Timeras and Oued Assassou, and then continue on to the oasis of Djanet. Djanet, which is called the “pearl of Tassili”, is one of the nicest mountain oases all around the Sahara. Visit the local museum where interesting archaeological remains dating back to different prehistoric periods and traditional Touareg daily-life objects can be found and head back out into Sahara towards Tararart (cave paintings) for last night in the desert. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 9 : Djanet - Algiers - Depart

Transfer to Djanet airport for the return flight to Algiers. Meal(s) Included: Breakfast
